Welcome to 290 Therapy
A soft place for mothers to exhale — without performing, proving, or holding it all together.
This is a space for women who are navigating the stretch of motherhood, identity, partnership, and past wounds. A space to lay down the pressure of being everything to everyone — and start tending to yourself.
Whether you're learning to set boundaries, grieving the version of you that got lost along the way, or questioning who you're allowed to be now… you don’t have to figure it out alone.
You’ve carried so much with grace.
Let this be the place where you feel held, too.
Here, we honor your full story — not just the polished parts.
The part of you that’s still healing.
The part that feels guilty for needing space.
The part that wants to feel seen, without having to explain everything.
Rest is sacred here. So is your truth.
Let’s begin — not from scratch, but from exactly where you are.
Who We Are…
Founded in 2021 by Tyra Steverson, LCPC, 290 Therapy was created to be more than a practice — it’s a home for healing. A soft landing place where your full self is welcomed, not managed.
At 290 Therapy, we provide culturally responsive, depth-oriented care that holds space for your truth — your story, your struggles, your joy, and your becoming. Whether you're navigating the complexities of motherhood, burnout, boundaries, or the weight of intergenerational trauma, you don’t have to do it alone. We walk with you — gently, intentionally, and without judgment.
Our work is centered in the belief that therapy is not just clinical — it’s personal. It’s political. It’s a form of reclamation. A liberatory practice where you get to unlearn who the world told you to be and reconnect with who you’ve always been underneath the roles, the expectations, and the silence.
We specialize in guiding individuals through the emotional terrain of identity, worth, and self-trust. We work with nuance. With care. With cultural context.
At 290 Therapy, you will never be asked to shrink, explain away, or compartmentalize your experience.
We see you in your fullness.
We hold space for your healing.
We honor the power of your return — to self, to truth, to wholeness.
This is your space to feel. To rest. To grow.
This is your invitation to come home — to you.

Founder and Clinically Licensed Counselor
Hi, I’m Tyra Steverson — a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and the founder of 290 Therapy. I’m also a mother, a partner, and a woman who’s walked through her own healing journey. For over six years, I’ve supported BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ individuals across Illinois through culturally responsive, trauma-informed therapy.
My approach is rooted in connection, community, and care — blending clinical insight with cultural tradition and lived experience. I hold degrees in Psychology and Counseling, with a Ph.D. in progress, and draw from psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, narrative, and Black feminist therapies. Clients often describe me as warm, real, and deeply grounded. In our work together, I’ll meet you where you are — with openness, intention, and respect for your full self.
