Rooted in Care. Grounded in Community. Centered in You.

Culturally affirming therapy and coaching to support healing, growth, and the joy of coming home to yourself.

Welcome to 290 Therapy

A soft landing place for your healing journey.

Here, we hold space for Black women, mothers, and communities to feel seen, supported, and empowered. Whether you’re navigating stress, identity, motherhood, or the weight of generational wounds — you don’t have to carry it alone.

This is a space where your story matters.

Where rest is sacred. And where healing is rooted in connection, culture, and care. Let’s begin — together.

Who We Are…

Founded in 2021 by Tyra Steverson, LCPC, 290 Therapy was born from a visionary dream: to create a safe, affirming space where healing feels possible — and personal growth feels powerful.

At 290 Therapy, we provide culturally responsive mental health care that honors your full identity — your story, your struggles, your joy, and your roots. Whether you're navigating motherhood, burnout, boundaries, or the weight of intergenerational trauma, we’re here to walk alongside you — with gentleness, intention, and deep respect.

We specialize in guiding individuals on a transformative journey of identity, empowerment, and radical healing. Our practice is rooted in the belief that therapy is more than a clinical process — it’s a tool of liberation. A sacred space to unlearn, to reclaim, and to remember who you are beneath the roles and expectations.

At 290 Therapy, you will never be asked to shrink or silence any part of yourself.

  • We see you in your fullness.

  • We hold space for your healing.

  • We honor the power of your becoming.

This is your space to feel, to rest, and to grow.

This is your invitation to come home — to yourself.

Founder and Clinically Licensed Counselor

Hi, I’m Tyra Steverson — a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and the founder of 290 Therapy. I’m also a mother, a partner, and a woman who’s walked through her own healing journey. For over six years, I’ve supported BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ individuals across Illinois through culturally responsive, trauma-informed therapy.

My approach is rooted in connection, community, and care — blending clinical insight with cultural tradition and lived experience. I hold degrees in Psychology and Counseling, with a Ph.D. in progress, and draw from psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, narrative, and Black feminist therapies. Clients often describe me as warm, real, and deeply grounded. In our work together, I’ll meet you where you are — with openness, intention, and respect for your full self.
