Who We Are…

Founded in 2021 by Tyra Steverson, LCPC, 290 Therapy was created to be more than a therapy practice. It is a place where Black women can find support, healing, and community while navigating life's challenges.

At 290 Therapy, we provide culturally responsive online therapy for Black women and mothers across Texas. We specialize in helping women navigate anxiety, stress, depression, grief, trauma, burnout, motherhood, life transitions, and the emotional weight of always being the strong one.

We are particularly passionate about Black maternal mental health, supporting women through fertility journeys, pregnancy, postpartum transitions, identity shifts, parenting challenges, and the emotional complexities of motherhood.

Our work is rooted in the belief that therapy is a form of resistance, reclamation, and self-trust. We provide depth-oriented care that honors your story, your identity, your struggles, your joy, and your becoming.

Whether you're adjusting to motherhood, navigating postpartum challenges, healing from trauma, processing grief, setting boundaries, managing anxiety, or rediscovering yourself in a new season of life, you don't have to do it alone.

We work with nuance, care, and cultural context. At 290 Therapy, you will never be asked to shrink, explain away, or compartmentalize your experience.

We see you in your fullness.
We hold space for your healing.
We honor the power of your return to yourself, your truth, and your wholeness.

This is your space to feel.
To rest.
To grow.

This is your invitation to come home to yourself.

Founder and Clinically Licensed Counselor

Hi, I’m Tyra Steverson — a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and the founder of 290 Therapy. I’m also a mother, a partner, and a woman who’s walked through her own healing journey. For over six years, I’ve supported BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ individuals across Illinois through culturally responsive, trauma-informed therapy.

My approach is rooted in connection, community, and care — blending clinical insight with cultural tradition and lived experience. I hold degrees in Psychology and Counseling, with a Ph.D. in progress, and draw from psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, narrative, and Black feminist therapies. Clients often describe me as warm, real, and deeply grounded. In our work together, I’ll meet you where you are — with openness, intention, and respect for your full self.
